Award-winning Chef Benjamin Palmer returned to his home town of Looe to open The Sardine Factory Restaurant in July 2018. Ben’s passion in the kitchen has bagged him a number of awards, including reaching the quarter finals of Masterchef: The Professionals. It has always been a dream of his to open a restaurant in the town that he grew up in. Ben & his team were delighted to receive the prestigious accolade of a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2019 & have retained it since.

The Sardine Factory has 80 covers overlooking the stunning harbour with a menu reflecting the ethos of Looe and a passion for local seasonal produce, with an abundance of sustainable fish dishes.

Ben Palmer

Chef Owner

Ben opened the Sardine Factory Restaurant in July 2018, after returning to his hometown of Looe. Ben has worked in many different restaurants across the UK and Europe, before settling back in the town with his wife and young family. Ben won the starter at the banquet for Great British Menu 2024.

Charlie Walters

Head Chef

Charlie was born & raised in Cornwall and has worked in many restaurants across the south West, before joining The Sardine Factory. You might also recognise him from MasterChef The Professionals 2023.

Leah Walters

Restaurant Manager

Leah is usually found welcoming guests to the restaurant, and has a background of hospitality, since a young age, she is also married to head chef Charlie!
